GALVANOMETER

Galvanometer is a very sensitive Instrument used to detect the flow of current in an electrical circuit.Being a very sensitive instrument a large current can’t be passed through it,as it may damage.When large current  flows, a portion of the current passes through the galvanometer and the remaining larger portion passes through the low resistance.

A GALVANOMETER CAN BE CHANGED INTO AN AMMETER BY CONNECTING A SHUNT WIRE PARALLEL TO IT.

SHUNT

A resistor with a very low resistance connected in parallel with other resistor.Such type of resistor is called shunt resistance.It is made up of a material having  low temperature  coefficient of resistance.
