DUAL NATURE OF LIGHT -WAVE LIKE PROPERTIES OF LIGHT (WAVE-PARTICLE DUALITY)

THE WAVE LIKE PROPERTIES OF LIGHT ARE

            The peculiarities like

  1. Interference
  2. Diffraction
  3. Dispersion
  4. Polarisation and so forth.

Light radiation has double nature, now and again acts like a wave and in some cases as a particle.

Christian Huygens proposed the wave hypothesis of light. (1678)

Thomas Young gave solid help to hypothesis of Christian Huygens’. (1801)

Fresnel who showed that light is a transverse wave.(1804)

Maxwell based on his numerical hypothesis of attraction(magnetism), showed that light is electromagnetic in nature.(1873)

Hertz found tentatively the presence of electromagnetic waves at radio frequency.(1889)

Max Von Laue recommended and noticed refraction of X-ray beams did the wave picture.(1912)

De Broglie granted for the disclosure of wave nature of electrons.(1924)

Davisson and Germer given the exploratory verification for the wave idea of electrons.(1927)

Schrodinger found the non-relativistic wave condition for the electron wave. (1933)

INTERFERENCE:

The phenomenon by which intensity is redistributed when two light waves from two coherent sources superpose each other.

INTERFERENCE PATTERN:

DIFFRACTION:

POLARISATION:

DISPERSION:
