FORCE ON A CURRENT CARRYING CONDUCTOR IN A MAGNETIC FIELD

JUSTIFICATION FOR FORCE ON A CURRENT CARRYING CONDUCTOR PLACED IN A MAGNETIC FIELD:

  • Force on a current carrying conductor set in a magnetic field is because of the collaboration(interaction) of two magnetic fields.
  • One is because of the current conveying component creates its own magnetic field around it.
  • Other one is the outer(external) magnetic field.

Think about a conductor AB
Its length is l and space of cross segment A
Current direction (I ) : Along positive Y-axis
Drift velocity (vd) : Opposite to the course(direction) of current
Magnetic field (B) : Along positive Z-axis
Magnetic Force (F) : Along positive X-axis

ELECTRON ENCOUNTERS A LORENTZ FORCE:

Every electron encounters a Lorentz force which is along the positive X-axis according to right hand palm rule or Fleming’s left hand rule as displayed below..

LORENTZ FORCE:

TOTAL NUMBER OF ELECTRONS IN THE CONDUCTOR :

TOTAL FORCE ON THE CONDUCTOR:

MAGNITUDE OF THE FORCE ON THE CURRENT CARRYING CONDUCTOR:
