HOOKE’S LAW OF ELASTICITY:

STATEMENT:

A force needed to extend or compress a spring by some distance is proportional to the distance moved by the spring.Hooke’s law works well only when the object is in the elastic region.

FORMULA:

Spring constant formula

Extension produced on the spring is subjected to the application of force. The formula is applicable only when the object is in the elastic region.

The significance of the negative sign is that the direction of the restoring force is always opposite to the direction of the displacement.
